See How We Restyled A Family Room to Bring A 90’s Time Capsule Back to Life!
Our client sent us photos of her dark and dated family room, with a plea to stage the space to feel brighter, updated and more inviting before they put the house on the market. The flow of the room was awkward, and placement of the furniture was not conducive to conversation; the television was mounted in a cabinet opposite the corner bar.
We started by improving the flow of the room, redirecting the seating toward the jaw-dropping views of the outdoors, and created a cozier spot both for TV watching and for conversation. The TV was moved out of the cabinet and positioned over the mantel, which helped anchor the fireplace as the focal point in the room.
We swapped the large sectional with an updated sofa and side chairs upholstered in lighter colored fabrics and accented with white pillows. We added two antique side chairs and changed the old oak bar chairs for new ones with contemporary lines and white cushions. The addition of the lighter fabrics made a huge impact on brightening up the room.
We finished off the room by adding an eclectic mix of light colored sculptural objects, artwork, an accent table and table lamp to brighten up a darker corner.
The transformation made the room feel bigger and much cozier, and accented the room’s architectural details and amazing views. Without making any structural or surface changes, the room now enables the potential buyers to imagine themselves in such an inviting and flexible space that functions as both a place for entertaining and as a cosy spot for family movie nights.
